The Manila City Government has generated nearly P350 million in online transactions since the implementation of its four-day workweek, which began on March 13, according to Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso.
Speaking during the Kapihan ng Samahang Plaridel held at the Luneta Park Hotel, Domagoso said the city’s digital payment and online transaction platforms enabled the local government to continue delivering public services efficiently despite the shortened workweek.
The mayor also revealed that Manila City Hall has achieved significant savings on electricity consumption as a result of the four-day work schedule. However, he did not disclose the exact amount of the savings.
Domagoso emphasized that the new work arrangement has not disrupted government services or public transactions, noting that residents continue to access various city services through online platforms.
He said the city’s digital initiatives have allowed business permit applications, tax payments, and other government transactions to proceed without inconvenience to the public.
The four-day workweek was implemented following the national government’s energy conservation measures amid rising fuel prices.
Under the arrangement, city government employees work longer hours from Monday to Thursday, while Fridays are designated as non-working days for most offices. Essential service offices, however, continue to operate to ensure uninterrupted delivery of public services.
Domagoso added that, as of now, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has yet to issue any directive on when local government units should return to the regular five-day workweek. Until such guidance is released, the Manila City Government will continue implementing the current work schedule.
