Hindi na lang weekdays ang inaabangan ng maraming negosyo.
Sa ngayon, weekends have become one of the biggest revenue opportunities for restaurants, malls, tourism operators and even neighborhood coffee shops.
Business observers say more Filipinos are now choosing to spend on experiences rather than material things.
Instead of buying expensive items, many consumers prefer short out-of-town trips, food crawls, concerts, fun runs, bazaars and family activities during weekends.
This shift is giving rise to what many in the retail and tourism sectors call the “weekend economy”—isang consumer trend kung saan concentrated ang spending sa Sabado at Linggo.
The trend is supported by official data.
According to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), household final consumption expenditure continued to be the biggest contributor to the country’s economic growth in 2025, accounting for the bulk of domestic demand.
This means consumer spending remains the primary engine of the Philippine economy. JESSE C. ONG
